If you are FREEZING (accepting your JoSAA seat)
Status: This is your final allotted seat for JoSAA 2026.
Even if you still see Float or Slide options in your portal, they have no effect in Round 5. Round 5 is the last allotment round — what you freeze now is final for JoSAA.

Warning: If you fail to pay PAF within this window, your seat will be permanently cancelled. No extensions are given.

If you are WITHDRAWING (exiting the process)
Status: You do not want the seat allotted to you in JoSAA.
Closes: 20 July 2026 at 5:00 PM
- Refund: Your Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) is refunded after applicable processing deductions.
- It may take up to a few months for the refund to credit to your bank account.
- After withdrawal you may be eligible for CSAB fresh registration — see pathway 4.
Going to CSAB WITH a JoSAA seat (securing a backup)
Status: Keep your NIT+ seat as a safety net while trying for a better branch/college in CSAB.
Mandatory before CSAB: Complete JoSAA online reporting, get documents successfully verified, and pay the JoSAA PAF (see pathway 1 dates).
If CSAB upgrades you: Your previous JoSAA seat is automatically cancelled and you move to the new institute.
If you do not get a CSAB upgrade: You retain your frozen JoSAA seat.

Going to CSAB WITHOUT a JoSAA seat (fresh entry)
Status: You withdrew, had your seat cancelled, or never received a JoSAA allotment.
Mandatory: Register fresh on csab.nic.in when CSAB registration opens (vacant matrix expected 28 July 2026).
If allotted a seat in CSAB rounds: upload documents, complete verification, and pay required fees at that stage. Read our CSAB 2026 hub for registration steps.
Withdrawing in CSAB Round 1 (with a JoSAA seat)
If you carry your JoSAA seat into CSAB and choose to surrender/withdraw during the CSAB Round 1 reporting window, you will not receive a full refund. A partial amount is refunded after standard CSAB processing deductions.
Withdrawing in CSAB Round 2 — no refund rule
If you hold a seat (from JoSAA or a fresh CSAB Round 1 allotment) and fail to withdraw before CSAB Round 2, or try to withdraw during or after Round 2, no refund of any kind will be provided. Your seat and fees may be forfeited.

It is your sole responsibility to check your JoSAA/CSAB portal daily. Watch for queries raised by Document Verifying Officers (DVOs). Failing to respond on time results in instant seat cancellation.

Frequently asked questions
Do Float and Slide still work in JoSAA Round 5?
No. In Round 5, Float and Slide have no effect. If you freeze, that seat is final for JoSAA — pay PAF by 24 July 2026, 5:00 PM.
Can I join CSAB if I already paid JoSAA PAF?
Yes — that is the recommended backup path. Complete reporting and PAF first; then participate in CSAB. Upgrade in CSAB cancels JoSAA seat; no upgrade keeps your JoSAA seat.
When does CSAB 2026 registration start?
Registration has not opened yet. Vacant Seat Matrix is expected 28 July 2026. Follow csab.nic.in and our CSAB hub.
Is this an official JoSAA or CSAB website?
